CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- UNC sophomore forward Chris Carrieri (Stafford, Va.) was named third-team All-America Friday by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Carrieri was one of five Atlantic Coast Conference players and eight sophomores overall named to the first-, second- or third-team. The other ACC honorees are Ali Curtis (Jr., Duke), Dan Califf (Soph., Maryland), Ryan Trout (Jr., Virginia) and Taylor Twellman (Soph., Maryland).

Carrieri led Carolina in scoring for the second season in a row in 1999, finishing the year with 29 points on 12 goals and five assists. He tied for third in the ACC in points and points per game and was second in goals and goals per game.

Carolina went 12-7-1 in 1999 and reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1994.
