COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
The University of Maryland Athletic Department held several activities
Friday in conjunction with National Student-Athlete Day, including
campus tours and interactive games for visiting middle schoolers from
the Baltimore City area.
Two-hundred and twenty middle school students from the Baltimore
area joined 30 Maryland student-athetes in several activities
throughout the day Friday. The Terrapin student-athletes led the
visiting students on campus tours, as well as orchestrating sports activities.
Former Terp football star and current Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Jermaine Lewis spoke to the children in attendance about the positive influences of playing sports in school. Former Maryland basketball star Duane Simpkins also spoke about the importance of completing a college degree.
Maryland men's soccer players Beckett Hollenbach and Tyler Pharr also worked the clinic as they ran a soccer dribbling drill.
