COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Eight seniors including Terrapin golfer Keith Unikel (Potomac, Md.) and lacrosse star Marcus LaChapelle (Severna Park, Md.), and two juniors, make up the 2000 GTE/CoSIDA Academic All-District first team. GTE Academic All-America and All-District teams are chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

A pair of schools each had two student-athletes honored on the all-district team. Maryland was joined by the U.S. Naval Academy with senior track and field athlete Eric Adams and senior tennis player Mitchell Koch earning recognition. A total of 10 student-athletes were chosen for the team. Each will be placed on a national ballot for consideration for the GTE Academic All-America Team.

LaChapelle and Unikel were both on the 1999 GTE Academic All-District second team, and are two of seven student-athletes that were honored for the second consecutive year. LaChapelle boasts a 3.58 grade-point average in biological sciences. Unikel has a 3.56 GPA in finance.

LaChapelle completed his senior campaign with the 11-5 Maryland lacrosse team, helping guide the Terps to the NCAA quarterfinals and finishing his final college season with 14 goals and 14 assists. He was fifth on the team in scoring. Unikel, meanwhile, completed his collegiate golf career at the NCAA East Regionals. Unikel won a pair of tournaments last spring while sporting a team-leading 72.47 stroke average. He also became the first Maryland golfer in history to earn All-ACC honors in back-to-back seasons.
