Opelika, Ala. - Virginia senior James Driscoll placed ninth overall at the NCAA Golf Championship at the NCAA Men's Golf Championship at the par-72, 7003-yard Robert Trent Jones Trail at Grand National Lake Course. Driscoll fired a 68 in his final round to break out of a six-way tie for 13th place after the three rounds. Oklahoma State's Charles Howell ran away win the NCAA individual title shooting a 69--265, to win by eight shots over Houston's Chris Morris.

Driscoll shot 278 (68-71-71-68) to record the third best finish in NCAA Tournament action in Virginia history. Virginia's Brooke Dixon won the NCAA Tournament in 1940 and Lewis Chitengwa finished seventh in 1996.

Oklahoma State won a one-hole playoff over Georgia Tech to win the team championship.
