![]() Carolina's Men's Golf Adds Another Top Recruit
June 10, 2003 Chapel Hill, N.C. - North Carolina men's golf coach, John Inman, announces the signing of Martin Ureta, originally from Santiago, Chile, but most recently from Wesley Chapel, Fla., where he played golf at Saddlebrook Prep Academy. "Martin was recruited heavily last year, and we feel very fortunate that he chose Chapel Hill in the late signing period," says North Carolina head coach John Inman. "With a beautiful and technically outstanding golf swing to start with, I know Martin will work as hard as anyone to succeed in all areas at Carolina. He is an extremely driven and mature young man." Ureta, currently ranked 11th in the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings and 29th in the National Junior Golf Scoreboard Rankings, won the Florida High School Class A Championship this past year. He fired rounds of 66-70 to post a one-stroke victory and led his school, Saddlebrook Prep Academy, to the team championship as well. Ureta has posted six top-11 and eight top-25 finishes in AJGA (American Junior Golf Association) events during his junior career. In addition, he won the FCWT (Future Collegians World Tour) Cutter Sound in 2001 and was the runner-up at the 2000 Junior Worlds.
Ureta, along with Will Dottley, from Madison, Miss., will join the Tar Heel golf team this fall. Dottley signed a letter-of-intent last fall.
