Durham, N.C. - NCAA Men's Golf Championships
Duke University Golf Course - Durham, N.C.

Torrential rains took over the Duke University Golf Course late Friday morning, forcing officials to suspend play during the third round of the NCAA Men's Golf Championships. Fifteen teams had completed about half of Friday's round when the horn sounded at 11:54 a.m. After three hours of non-stop rain, including periods of very heavy downpours, officials halted all play for Friday at 2:56 p.m.

Wake Forest, which entered the day in third place at even-par, had slipped to sixth place with a three-over par when play was suspended. The first three Deacon players to tee off - Cortland Lowe, Bill Haas, and Jay Morgan - had all made the turn when play was suspended. Lowe was five-over through 10 holes, while Haas was three over and Morgan was one over through nine.

Rounding out the Deacon lineup were Chris Yoder and Brent Wanner. Yoder was even through eight holes, while Wanner was one under through seven holes. Yoder had just reached the No. 9 green and was in position for an eagle putt when the horn sounded.

The schedule for Saturday begins with all players reporting at 7:20 a.m. to their positions when play was suspended. Participants will finish out the third round, then play the fourth and final round immediately following the completion of the third. Teams will use the same pairings for the fourth round that were used in the third, therefore Wake Forest will continue to play with Arizona and Florida on Saturday.
