![]() Duke Hires Chris Collins As Assistant Basketball Coach
July 23, 2000 Associated Press DURHAM - Former Duke basketball player Chris Collins has been picked to replace David Henderson as an assistant coach for the Blue Devils. Henderson was named the head coach at Delaware on July 21. "We are absolutely ecstatic about having Chris Collins join our staff," coach Mike Krzyzewski said. "He was huge contributor as a player here. His leadership, especially his senior year, helped return our program to national prominence. His enthusiasm for and intelligence of the game will make him a great asset to our program." Collins has spent two years as an assistant coach at Seton Hall under Tommy Amaker, another Duke alumnus. He spent the 1997-98 season as an assistant with the WNBA's Detroit Shock after playing professional basketball in Finland during the 1996-97 season.
Collins was a team captain as a senior at Duke and a letterman from 1993-96,
staring at point guard for two seasons. He is the son of former NBA player and
coach Doug Collins.
