![]() Cross Country NCAA ACCtion: Monday, November 20
Nov. 20, 2006 TERRE HAUTE, IND. - The 2006 Cross Country season came to a close this afternoon in Terre Haute, Ind., at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course, site of the 2006 NCAA Cross Country Championship. The Stanford Cardinal won the women's title for the second straight year, while the Colorado Buffaloes captured the men's crown for the third time in school history. NC State's Julia Lucas was the top ACC finisher on the women's side placing fifth in a time of 20:47.1. Emily McCabe of Duke was the top Blue Devil finisher crossing the finish line in a time of 21:08.2. Wake Forest's Michelle Sikes was one second behind finishing in 15th place clocking in at 21:09.2. In the team competition, top league honors went to Duke as the Blue Devils finished the 6K course in 10th place overall with 320 points. The top five-finishers for Duke included McCabe, Maddie McKeever (15th - 21:10), Laura Stanley (63rd - 21:56), Kate Van Buskirk (98th - 22:23) and Eleanor Pishny (132nd - 22:39). Virginia finished in 14th place followed by Virginia Tech and NC State in 18th and 19th place, respectively. Florida State finished the team competition in 21st place. Rounding out the rest of the ACC teams competing in the national championship on the women's side were Wake Forest (27th), Boston College (30th) and North Carolina (31st). Stanford won the team competition with 195 total team points, while Sally Kipyego of Texas Tech claimed the individual title crossing the finish line in first in a time of 20:11.1 Jan Foerster of Virginia led all ACC competitors in the men's 10K race placing 32nd in a time of 31:38.0. Florida State senior Andrew Lemoncello clocked in at 31:48.6 to finish 43rd, while Itay Magidi of Clemson finished in 45th place in a time of 31:52.8. In the men's team competition, Virginia led the ACC with a 14th place showing accumulating 446 points. Foerster was the Cavaliers top finisher, followed in 72nd place by teammate Andrew Dumm (32:38). Spots three through five for Virginia were claimed by Andy Biladeau (86th - 32:44), Taylor Smith (130th - 33:13) and Andrew Jesien (142nd - 33:27), respectively. NC State finished in 16th place, while Florida State placed 30th in the team competition. Colorado took home the men's title totaling 94 team points, while BYU's Josh Rohatinsky won the individual championship by more than seven seconds in a time of 30:44.9.
