![]() Wake Forest Track and Field Places Five Athletes on ACC Academic Honor Roll
July 7, 2006 WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest track and field athletes Matthew Owen, Sean Stevens, Caitlin Chrisman, Lindsay Neuberger and Michelle Sikes were all named to the 2006 All Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Men's and Women's Track and Field Team, as announced by the conference office. To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his or her academic career. Each of the Wake Forest student-athletes that were named to the squad earned above a 3.6 spring semester grade point average. Owen, a junior, finished the spring semester with a 3.917 grade point average and owns a cumulative mark of 3.843 with a double major in political science and history. Stevens, a distance runner from Louisville, Tenn., closed the academic year with a perfect 4.0 spring grade point average in analytical finance. In addition, Stevens finished fourth at the ACC Championships in the 5,000 meters. On the women's side, Chrisman earned a 3.633 gpa in sociology and qualified for the NCAA East Regional. Neuberger redshirted the spring season, but set the school record in the weight throw and indoor shot put in the winter. A provisional NCAA qualifier in the same event, Neuberger earned a 3.7 spring and cumulative grade point average in her first semester of graduate school. Sikes, one of the most decorated track and field athletes this spring, earned a 3.701 grade point average in mathematical economics and owns a 3.902 cumulative gpa. On the field, Sikes finished the ACC Championships and fifth in the NCAA Championships to become the 19th Demon Deacon and only in 2005-06 to earn All-American honors.
