GREENSBORO, N.C. - North Carolina's Tyler Harris and Kelsey Morrissy made it a sweep of the Atlantic Coast Conference Swimming and Diving Performers of the Week accolades, after helping their squads pick up conference wins in last week's conference-opener for the Tar Heels.
The first Tar Heel to receive the men's accolade this year, Harris won a trio of individual events to lead No. 16 North Carolina to a 177-113 dual meet win over Duke. The freshman from Richmond, Va., posted a winning 58.95 time in the 100 breaststroke and took first place in the 200 breast with a 2:04.48, which ties for the fourth-best in the league. He also won the 200 individual medley, touching in at 1:52.59, which is third fastest in the ACC.
Earning her second-straight women's honor, Morrissy helped the 11th-ranked Tar Heels defeat Duke 178-115 in their first conference dual meet of the season. The senior posted NCAA "B" cut times in the 50 and 100 freestyle events with winning marks of 23.23 and 50.58, respectively. Her time in the 100 free is the fastest in the ACC, while her mark in the 50 free currently ranks second. The freestyle sprinter from Horsham, Pa., also anchored both the winning 400 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay, as the 400 free relay squad set a new Duke pool record (3:46.08) in the process.
North Carolina returns to the pool this week, as it hosts the annual Nike Cup Invitational. The three-day event will start Thursday, November 15, and run through Saturday, November 17.
