![]() Three Tabbed ACC Swimming and Diving Performers of the Week
Oct. 23, 2007 GREENSBORO, N.C. - Three student-athletes have been selected Atlantic Coast Conference Swimming and Diving Performers of the Week, as Florida State's Terry Horner and Virginia's John Azar share the men's award while Virginia's Stephanie Glover earns the women's honor. For the second-straight week, a Seminole has been tabbed for the men's accolade as Horner collected a pair of first-place finishes against Miami and Florida A&M last Friday. The sophomore from Orlando, Fla., turned in a milestone performance as he broke the school record and the 400-point mark for the first time in his career on the 1-meter with 400.75 points. Horner made it a sweep at the meet, also winning the 3-meter with a score of 387.60. Azar, a second year from El Paso, Texas, helped Virginia notch its first win of the young season against in-state rival Virginia Tech. He captured first place in both the 200 breaststroke and 200 individual medley with winning times of 2:05.47 and 1:53.78, respectively. The sophomore also swam on the 200 medley relay team that finished runner-up with a 1:32.54 mark. Azar's time in the 200 breast ranks first in the conference, while his performance in the 200 IM is third best. A fourth year swimmer at Virginia, Glover won two individual events and helped secure two relay victories as the 20th-ranked Cavaliers handed Virginia Tech its first loss of the 2007-08 season last Saturday. A native of Raleigh, N.C., Glover turned in a first-place performance in both the 100 butterfly (55.90) and 200 freestyle (1:51.44), and was also part of two winning relay squads (200 medley and 400 freestyle). Her times in the 100 fly and 200 free currently rank first and second, respectively, in the league. In addition, Glover's contribution in the 200 medley helped the Cavaliers set a new War Memorial Pool record (1:43.59). Competition will resume for Virginia this week, as the Cavaliers wrap up their October schedule hosting Clemson in a conference dual meet at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Florida State takes a break from competition, returning to the pool on November 2 at Boston College.
