WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - First baseman Jon Palmieri, one of the ACC's leading hitters, and distance runner Janelle Kraus, an All-ACC performer in three sports, received the top awards at Wake Forest's Sports Banquet Monday evening at Bridger Field House.

Palmieri, a 1998 All-American who currently ranks among the conference leaders in batting, runs scored and RBIs, was recipient of the Arnold Palmer Award as the school's top male athlete.

Kraus, who won the ACC cross country championship last fall as well as the 5,000-meter indoor and outdoor titles, was awarded the Marge Crisp Award as the leading female athlete. It was the second straight year that she has received that honor.

Team MVPs were named in the winter and spring sports. They were: Robert O'Kelley (men's basketball), Emon McMillian (women's basketball), Myles Clouston (men's tennis), Janet Bergman (women's tennis), Michael Capone (men's golf), Marta Prieto (women's golf), and Nolan Swanson (men's track). Kraus was MVP in women's track, while Palmieri and catcher Andrew Riepe were named co-MVPs in baseball.

Also honored were soccer players Sari Rose and Kyle Bachmeier, who were recipients of the annual ACC Awards for Excellence in Scholarship and Athletics.
