Deacs to Face Maryland in First Round of ACC Tournament
The Wake Forest women's basketball team concluded the 1998-99 season at 7-19 overall and 3-13 in the ACC, finishing in a seventh-place tie with Maryland (6-20, 3-13) in the conference standings. Although No. 7 plays No. 8 in the first round of the ACC Tournament, a tiebreaker was employed to determine seedings. Wake and Maryland split their two regular-season meetings and held identical records against the other conference teams, so a coin toss was used. Maryland won the toss to earn the seventh seed, while the Demon Deacons were officially seeded eighth.
Wake Forest and Maryland will square off in the opening game of the 1999 ACC Tournament on Friday, February 26th at 6:00 pm at Independence Arena in Charlotte, N.C. The winner advances to face No. 2 Virginia in the quarterfinals on Saturday at 3:30 pm. In other games, No. 1 Duke faces No. 9 Florida State in the first round on Friday at 8:00 pm, with the winner earning a bye into the semifinals; No. 4 Clemson faces No. 5 NC State in the quarterfinals on Saturday at 1:00 pm; and No. 3 North Carolina faces No. 6 Georgia Tech in the quarterfinals on Saturday at 6:00 pm.
NC State Edges Wake Forest in Season Finale
Despite having five players in double figures, Wake Forest dropped a heartbreaking season finale to NC State, 75-72. The Deacons played perhaps their best game of the season, shooting nearly 50 percent from floor (49.2%) and controlling the boards by a 41-32 margin. The Deacs led by as many as eight in the first half before State rallied to tie the game at 37-37 at halftime. Wake surged ahead again in the second half, but the Pack came back to take the lead midway through the period. State led by as many as seven, but Wake Forest wouldn't go away quietly. The Deacons cut the Pack's lead to one on two occasions, but were unable to close the gap before time expired. Sophomore guard Janae Whiteside led Wake Forest with a career-high 18 points, including four three-pointers, while senior forward Emon McMillian added 15 points. Sophomore forward Olivia Dardy added 14 points, senior guard Heidi Coleman hit four treys to total 12 points, and sophomore forward Kristen Shaffer chipped in 11 points and a career - and team-high seven rebounds. Summer Erb led NC State with 34 points and 13 rebounds.
Regular Season Wrap-Up
In its second year of rebuilding under head coach Charlene Curtis, Wake Forest has shown dramatic improvements on the court despite winning only three more games than last year. The Demon Deacons field an extremely young team, featuring 10 freshmen and sophomores, but are anchored by four seasoned veterans, all of whom were returning starters. The Deacs have relied on tremendous depth, strong rebounding, and an arsenal of three-point shooters this season, but ultimately have struggled with poor shooting (38 percent) and the lack of a true go-to scorer. Although 11 of the 13 active players on the roster have posted at least one double figure scoring outing, no player finished the regular season averaging in double figures for the second straight year.
Sophomore forward Olivia Dardy leads the team in both scoring (9.5 ppg) and rebounding (7.1 rpg) from off the bench, while senior forward Emon McMillian ranks second in both categories (9.4 ppg, 5.5 rpg). Freshman center LaChina Robinson leads the team in blocks (0.8 bpg) and has averaged 6.4 points and 4.2 rebounds per ACC game. Sophomore guard Janae Whiteside recently broke into the starting lineup and has posted three double-figure outings in the last five games, shooting 43 percent from three-point range (13-30) during that span. Overall, Wake Forest is averaging 63.1 points per game on 38 percent shooting, and the Deacs have outrebounded opponents by a +2.3 margin. WFU averages an impressive 5.8 three-pointers per game, hitting 32 percent of its treys. In ACC games, the Deacs average just 59.6 points per outing on 37 percent shooting and outrebound opponents by a +0.9 margin.
Dardy, Robinson Earn ACC Postseason Honors Sophomore forward Olivia Dardy and freshman center LaChina Robinson were named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Basketball Teams, it was announced Wednesday by the Atlantic Coast Sports Writers Association. Dardy earned Honorable Mention All-ACC honors, while Robinson was selected to the ACC All-Freshman Team. Dardy is Wake's first All-ACC honoree since Tracy Connor in 1996, while Robinson is the sixth Demon Deacon to earn All-Freshman honors, the last being current junior Alisha Mosley (1996). See below for more information on these two players.
Wake in the ACC Tournament
The Deacs hold a 5-21 overall record in the ACC Tournament since its inception in 1978. This year marks the eighth time that the Wake Forest has been seeded eighth, and the Deacs own a 3-7 overall record as the No. 8 seed. The highest that Wake Forest has ever been seeded in the ACC Tournament is third (1988), while the Deacs have been the No. 9 seed twice (1993, 1998). WFU has never won an ACC tournament title, but has advanced as far as the semifinals twice (1986, 1988). No seed higher than No. 5 has ever won an ACC tournament crown.
Last year, the ninth-seeded Demon Deacons fell to eighth-seeded Georgia Tech, 78-67, in the tournament's opening game. Wake's Olivia Dardy turned in a dazzling 26-point, eight-rebound performance in her first career start, setting tournament first-round records for points, field goals made (11), and field goals attempted (23).
Scouting Maryland (6-20, 3-13 ACC)
Maryland defeated Georgia Tech, 92-79, in its season finale last Sunday, propelling the Terrapins into a seventh-place tie with WFU in the conference standings. Prior to that, the Terps had lost four straight since defeating the Deacs 68-66 on Feb. 6th. Maryland's only other ACC win came on a 94-76 decision over last-place Florida State on Jan. 17th. Maryland owns a conference-best 34-13 record in ACC Tournament play, and the Terps own more tourney titles than any other school with eight. Last year, sixth-seeded UM advanced to the semifinals before falling to Clemson, 63-44. Through 26 games, Maryland is led by freshman forward Deedee Warley, who averages 13.4 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. Senior forward Kelley Gibson (12.4 ppg) and junior center Branka Bogunovic (11.7 ppg, 7.1 rpg) also average in double figures. As a team, Maryland averages 59.9 points per game on 43 percent shooting, and the Terps have been outrebounded by a 1.3 margin.
Series History
Maryland owns a 35-8 advantage in the all-time series with Wake Forest, which dates back to the 1976-77 season. The Terps have won six of the last seven outings, including a 68-66 decision in Winston-Salem on Feb 6th. Wake defeated Maryland in the teams' first meeting this season in College Park, 65-47. The Deacs are 0-4 vs. Maryland in ACC Tournament games, having been knocked out by the Terps in 1980 (100-49, first round), 1984 (68-50, first round), 1988 (102-57, semifinals), and 1990 (87-68, first round).
Wake Forest vs. Maryland This Year
Wake Forest and Maryland split their two meetings in the regular season, with the Deacs winning 65-47 in College Park on Dec. 13th and the Terps winning 68-66 in Winston-Salem on Feb. 6th. In the first game, Olivia Dardy scored 17 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to lift Wake Forest to the win, snapping a 17-game ACC losing streak for the Deacs. Wake held UM to just 27 percent shooting for the game, and Dardy earned ACC Co-Player of the Week honors for her performance. March Strickland led UM with 18 points. In the second meeting, Branka Bogunovic and Tiffany Brown each hit a free throw in the game's final 14 seconds to lift Maryland to the two-point victory. The game was a close one the whole way, as both teams shot over 50 percent from the floor. Deedee Warley led the Terps with 23 points, while Kelley Gibson added 20 and Bogunovic had 18. Four Wake Forest players scored in double figures: Janae Whiteside (13 pts), Emon McMillian (12), Dardy (10), and Kristen Shaffer (10).
Looking Ahead to Virginia
Should the Deacs defeat Maryland, they would face No. 2 seed Virginia in the ACC quarterfinals on Saturday at 3:30 pm. Virginia finished the regular season at 19-7 overall and 12-4 in the ACC, winning four of their last five games. The Cavaliers swept Wake Forest in two regular-season meetings, winning 65-45 in Charlottesville on Dec. 4th and 81-50 in Winston-Salem on Jan. 28th. Through 26 games, UVa is led by senior center DeMya Walker, who averages 15.0 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 3.0 blocks per game. Sophomore guard Erin Stovall (14.9 ppg) and senior guard/forward Monick Foote (13.0 ppg) also average in double figures. As a team, Virginia averages 76.6 points per game on 44 percent shooting, and the Cavaliers outrebound opponents by a 2.6 margin.
Fountain of Youth
The Deacs feature an extremely youthful squad this season, with 10 of 14 players in only their freshman or sophomore years of eligibility. The squad is anchored by four veterans, however, including two fifth-year players (Heidi Coleman, Emon McMillian), one true senior (Jenn Miklic), and one junior (Alisha Mosley), all returning starters.
In Search of Point Production
For the second consecutive season, the Deacs have struggled to put points on the board. No player finished the regular season averaging in double figures, and the team as a whole has averaged just 63.1 points per game. Wake did show improvement in the scoring department early on, averaging 77 points in its first five games of the season. The team has topped 70 points just five times in its last 21 games, however, and has scored less than 60 points 11 times. In the eight of the last 11 games (excluding Maryland, Florida State, and NC State), the Deacs have struggled with poor shooting, hitting just 31% from the floor (155-497), 18% from three-point range (28-155), and 57% from the line (77-135). Against UM, FSU, and State, however, Wake shot quite impressively. In those three games, the Deacs hit a combined 47% of their shots from the floor (81-171), an amazing 49% from three-point range (29-59), and a solid 71% from the line (27-38).
Raining Threes
Wake Forest has utilized an arsenal of three-point shooters this season to rank as one of the top long-distance teams in the ACC. The Demon Deacons are currently averaging 5.8 threes per game (second-best in the ACC) and hitting 32.2 percent of their treys (third). The Deacs have already shattered the school marks for three-pointers made and attempted in a season, having hit 151 of 469 attempts so far this year. (The previous records were 134 made in 1993-94 and 365 attempts in 1997-98). Wake has hit at least 10 three-pointers in a game on five occasions this year, against Fairleigh Dickinson (11-23), Virginia (10-22), UMBC (10-22), Florida State (11-20), and NC State (10-21). In addition, WFU has shot over 40 percent from the three-point arc nine times. Senior Heidi Coleman remains Wake's top three-point threat, (40-107, 37%), although her backup, Val Klopfer (23-60, 38%) has emerged as a long-distance danger as well. Junior guard Alisha Mosley (26-87, 30%) and sophomore guard Janae Whiteside (24-80, 30%) have also contributed some clutch threes. Whiteside has been particularly hot from three-point range in the last five games, hitting 13-of-30 (43%), including 5-of-8 vs. FSU and 4-of-8 vs. State. In addition, sophomore forward Olivia Dardy (24-80, 30%) is an inside-outside threat who has the ability to step out and hit a long-range three. And although they don't shoot threes very often, freshman guard Adell Harris (6-23, 26%) and sophomore forwards Kristen Shaffer (3-8, 38%) and Brenda Mock Kirkpatrick (4-17, 24%) can also hit treys on occasion.
Free Throw Woes
Wake Forest has struggled from the free throw line this season, with the Deacs hitting just 63.1 of their shots from the charity stripe on the year. In ACC games, Wake has hit just 59.8 percent of its foul shots, though the Deacs did sink 18 of 19 vs. UNC on Jan. 2 - a school single-game record of 94.7 percent.
Interior Improvements
The Deacs boast a stronger inside game and better rebounding this season with the return of some key players and the addition of some new faces. Three returning forwards - senior Emon McMillian (9.4 ppg, 5.5 rpg) and sophomores Olivia Dardy (9.5 ppg, 7.1 rpg) and Brenda Mock Kirkpatrick (6.8 ppg, 4.2 rpg) - have demonstrated much-improved inside games this year, ranking as the team's top three rebounders and three of the Deacs' top four scorers. All three have posted double-doubles this year. In addition, 6-4 freshman centers LaChina Robinson (5.7 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 0.8 bpg) and Elizabeth Biedrycki (2.2 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 0.3) have provided additional size and defensive presence in the paint. In ACC games only, Dardy (9.1 ppg, 7.3 rpg), McMillian (8.7 ppg, 5.5 rpg), and Robinson (6.4 ppg, 4.2 rpg) rank as the team's top three scorers and rebounders.
Double-Digit Deacons
Although no Demon Deacons are averaging double-figure scoring on the season, 12 of Wake's 13 active players have recorded double figures in either points, rebounds, or assists during the year, including 11 players with at least one double-digit scoring game. A look at Wake's double-digit performances:
Name Pts Rebs Ast D-D's
Elizabeth Biedrycki 1 0 0 0
Heidi Coleman 5 0 0 0
Olivia Dardy 11 6 0 5
Adell Harris 0 0 1 0
Brenda Mock Kirkpatrick 6 2 0 1
Val Klopfer 3 0 0 0

Janae Whiteside 3 0 0 0
Improved Assist-to-Turnover Ratios
Another area of improvement for the Demon Deacons this year is in the guards' assist-to-turnover ratio. Last season, only one Wake Forest player registered a positive ratio for the season (senior point guard Heidi Coleman was 57-to-55) and the Deacon backcourt as a whole stood at -1.13. This year's backcourt unit checks in at +1.05 (217-to-206), led by junior guard Alisha Mosley's +1.29 ratio (58-to-45). Coleman owns a +1.19 ratio (51-to-43), while freshman point guard Val Klopfer holds a +1.23 ratio (27-to-22). Sophomore Janae Whiteside (39-to-43, -1.10) and rookie Adell Harris (42-to-53, -1.26) round out the unit. As a team, Wake Forest has dramatically improved its assist and turnover numbers since last season. In 1997-98, the Deacons averaged nearly twice as many turnovers as assists, making 21.3 turnovers per game while dishing just 11.7 assists. This year, the Deacs have trimmed their turnover average to 19.5 miscues per game, while their assist average has jumped to 15.1 per game.
Bench Scoring
Wake Forest boasts an extremely deep lineup, and head coach Charlene Curtis has utilized her entire bench in nearly every game this year. In fact, the WFU bench has contributed almost half of the team's points on the season (783-of-1641, 47.7%) and has outscored the starters in 13 of 26 games. In a 10-game stretch from Jan. 4th to Feb. 11th, the bench outscored the starters eight times, contributing 55 percent of the team's points (316-of-579). Since then, however, the starters have outscored the bench in each of the last three outings, contributing 117 of 190 points (62 percent).
Dardy Leads Deacs in Scoring, Rebounding, Steals
Sophomore forward Olivia Dardy continues to lead the Deacs in scoring (9.5 ppg), rebounding (7.1 rpg), and steals (1.2 spg) from off the bench. She ranks as the ACC's seventh-leading rebounder overall and is sixth with 7.3 boards per ACC game. A versatile player who can play the three, four, or five position, Dardy can score both in the paint and from three-point range. She played primarily small forward early this season, but has recently seen more time rotating at center, the position she played as a rookie. Dardy holds a 30.0 three-point shooting percentage (24-80) and has notched five double-doubles on the year. Earlier this year, she earned All-Tournament honors at the Fairfield-Warner's Classic, racking up 31 points and 21 rebounds in two games. She also earned ACC Co-Player of the Week honors on Dec. 13th for her 17-point, 15-rebound outing in the win over Maryland. Last season, Dardy led the team in scoring and rebounding in ACC games (8.8 ppg, 6.7 rpg) and was named to ACC Athlete's All-Freshman Team.
Coleman Climbs Three-Point Shooting Charts
Senior point guard Heidi Coleman will go down as one of the top three-point shooters in Wake Forest history, and she currently ranks second all-time in three-pointers made (183) and attempted (513) in a career. Those numbers rank her 11th and 10th all-time (respectively) in the ACC record book. Coleman, who owns a 35.7 career three-point percentage, needs 11 threes on 37 attempts in the postseason to break the WFU career marks. Coleman already holds the school single-season records in both categories, hitting 61-of-179 treys in 1996-97. Last year she nearly matched those marks, hitting 57-of-166. Coleman also ranks as Wake's eighth all-time assist leader with 279, and is 16th in career points with 913.
McMillian Anchors the Post
Senior forward Emon McMillian serves as one of the Deacs' primary anchors this season, bringing veteran experience to a young frontcourt. A fifth-year player, McMillian is in her second season as the Deacs' starting power forward. She currently ranks second on the team in both scoring (9.4 ppg) and rebounding (5.5 rpg) and she has posted 12 double-figure scoring outings, including eight of the last 13 games in which she hasn't been injured (she was out at FSU with a shoulder sprain and played just two minutes at Ga. Tech due to an ankle sprain). McMillian's best outing of the season came in the Deacs' Nov. 24th win at Providence, where she netted a career-high 23 points and 12 rebounds. She recently netted her fifth career double-double in the win over Florida State, collecting 15 points and 12 rebounds. McMillian currently ranks 16th on Wake's all-time rebounding list with 441 career boards. Her father, Jim, played in the NBA and was a member of the Lakers' 1972 championship team.
Mosley An Offensive Key
Junior guard Alisha Mosley has been one of the Deacs' key playmakers this season, averaging 7.7 points and a team-high 2.2 assists per outing. Mosley has scored in double figures 10 times this year (including a career-high 23 points in the season opener vs. VCU) and has led the team in scoring five times. She has led the team in assists in eight games, dishing a career-high six set-ups vs. both FDU and UNC. Mosley also ranks among the team's top three-point shooters (26-87, 30%) and owns a team-high +1.29 assist-to-turnover ratio (58-to-45). Mosley has been somewhat quiet lately, however, averaging just 2.5 points and 0.7 assists per game in the last six outings. Earlier this year, she was named to the California-Oakland Tribune Classic All-Tournament Team after totalling 31 points and seven assists in two games. An ACC All-Freshman pick in 1996-97, Mosley averaged 7.6 points and 2.1 assists per game last year.
Miklic a Defensive Stopper
Senior forward Jenn Miklic continues to serve as the Deacons' top defensive stopper this season, often receiving the assignment of covering an opponent's top scoring threat. An aggressive defender and a strong athlete, Miklic has started the last 24 games at small forward and often sets the tone on defense for the Deacs. She averages just over 11 minutes per game, contributing 1.5 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 0.9 assists per outing. Her best offensive game of the year came vs. Pittsburgh in the California-Oakland Tribune Classic, where she netted eight points and five rebounds. In the loss to NC State on Jan. 24th, Miklic dished a career-high six assists in just 18 minutes of play.
Whiteside White-Hot
Sophomore guard Janae Whiteside recently broke into the Deacon starting lineup at shooting guard and has been white-hot from the floor lately. She has posted three double-figure scoring outings in the last five games, hitting 13 of her 30 three-point attempts during that stretch (43.3%). She tallied a team- and (then) career-high 13 points vs. Maryland on Feb 6th, hitting 5-of-6 from the floor and 3-of-4 from three-point range. That performance earned her a starting job, and two games later she exploded for a new career high of 16 points vs. FSU, hitting 5-of-8 threes - the most treys by a Deacon in a game this year. She also made a career-high four steals vs. the 'Noles. Last Saturday at NC State, Whiteside again set a new career best in scoring with 18 points, hitting 7-of-14 from the floor and 4-of-8 from three-point range. Whiteside plays both point and shooting guard and averages 14.1 minutes per game, contributing 4.4 points and 1.5 assists per contest. She dished a career-high five assists vs. both West Virginia and Maryland earlier this year.
Shaffer Steps Up Too
Sophomore forward Kristen Shaffer has also stepped up her offensive contributions of late. She notched her first double-figure outing of the season vs. Maryland on Feb 6th, netting 10 points on 5-of-8 shooting, then contributed seven points on 3-of-6 shooting vs. FSU last Monday. In the Deacs' season finale, Shaffer netted a season-high 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting, scoring nine of the team's first 16 points, and grabbed a team- and career-high seven rebounds. A versatile swing player who excels in the open court, Shaffer averages 9.8 minutes per game on the year, contributing 3.0 points per outing.
Robinson Having an Outstanding Freshman Campaign
ACC All-Freshman candidate LaChina Robinson has started every game at center for the Demon Deacons this year and has had a somewhat rude welcome to college basketball. After just two years of varsity basketball at the high school level, Robinson has been asked to match up against some of the top players in the nation such as NC State's Summer Erb, Duke's Michele Van Gorp, and Virginia's DeMya Walker. Such competition has helped Robinson' game grow by leaps and bounds, however, and she has become a crucial part of the Deacons' lineup with her rebounding and shot-blocking ability. Robinson has proven to be a scoring threat as well, netting four double-figure outings on the year. She currently leads the team and ranks eighth in the ACC in blocks (0.8 bpg) and is the team's sixth-leading scorer (5.7 ppg) and third-leading rebounder (4.2 rpg). In ACC games only, she ranks third on the team in both scoring (6.4 ppg) and rebounding (4.2 rpg). Robinson tallied a career-best 22 points, eight rebounds, and three blocks vs. Georgia Tech on Jan. 4th to earn ACC Rookie of the Week honors. She has grabbed at least six rebounds in 11 games, including a career-high nine boards vs. Florida State on Feb. 15th.
Other Rookies Also Making Waves
In addition to Robinson, the Deacs' four other active freshmen players have all stepped up to become key contributors this year. Elizabeth Biedrycki (2.2 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 0.3 bpg), another 6-4 center, has backed up Robinson all year and has been a steady contributor off the bench. Biedrycki gives Wake added quickness in the paint in addition to her rebounding and shot-blocking abilities when she comes off the bench. She posted a career-best 12 points and eight rebounds in the Deacs' win at Providence on Nov. 24th and blocked a career-best three shots in the win over Fairleigh Dickinson on Nov. 27th. Point guard Val Klopfer (3.8 ppg) has seen her playing time steadily increase during the course of the year, and she now often splits time at the point with starter Heidi Coleman. She has proven to be a skilled ballhandler and a dangerous three-point shooter (23-60, 38%) and has posted three double-figure outings, including a career-high 18 points vs. Georgia Tech on Jan. 4.
Versatile guard Adell Harris (1.9 ppg, 1.7 apg) has also seen increased court time and has shown great potential as a playmaker. She put on a show-stopping performance in the final 10 minutes of the Georgia Tech game on Jan. 4, dishing 10 assists and making three steals to key the Deacs' come-from-behind win.
Swing player Liz Rogers (2.2 ppg, 1.5 rpg) has consistently provided a spark off the bench with her hustle and determination. Although averaging just under five minutes per game, Rogers is one of the most productive Deacons in terms of points and rebounds per minute. She netted her first double-figure outing vs. Duke on Feb 11th, tallying 10 points in 11 minutes of play, and she grabbed a career-high six rebounds vs. Clemson on Feb. 18th in just nine minutes.
The sixth member of the freshman class, 6-4 center LaTisha Pearson, has not dressed for a game this year but continues to practice with the team to further develop her skills. She will redshirt the 1998-99 season, but should have an immediate impact in the post next year.
Kirkpatrick a Key Contributor
Sophomore forward Brenda Mock Kirkpatrick continues to provide a spark for the Deacons off the bench with her strong play and tremendous hustle. Kirkpatrick averages just under 17 minutes per game but ranks as the team's fourth-leading scorer (6.8 ppg) and third-leading rebounder (4.2 rpg). She has tallied six double-figure scoring outings on the year and has grabbed double-figure rebounds twice, netting her first career double-double vs. West Virginia on Nov. 30th (13 pts, career-high 13 rebs). Kirkpatrick netted a career-best 15 points in back-to-back games at the Fairfield Warner's Classic (vs. Fairleigh Dickinson and East Carolina) earlier this year.
ACC Leaders
Through games of Feb. 21st, sophomore forward Olivia Dardy ranked seventh in the ACC in rebounding (7.1 rpg) while freshman center LaChina Robinson was eighth in blocks (0.8 bpg). In ACC games only, Dardy ranked sixth in rebounding (7.3 rpg), while Robinson was fifth in blocks (0.8bpg).
ACC Team Rankings
Through games of Feb. 21st, Wake Forest ranked second in the ACC in three-pointers per game (5.8) and third in three-point percentage (.322). Other team rankings: 8th in scoring (63.1 ppg), 7th in scoring defense (72.0 ppg), 8th in scoring margin (-8.9), 9th in field goal percentage (.381), 8th in field goal percentage defense (.435), 8th in free throw percentage (.631), 8th in blocks (2.1 bpg), 9th in steals (6.9 spg), 8th in turnover margin (-4.0), and 5th in rebound margin (+2.3).
Senior Leadership
Despite having a largely youthful team this season, the Demon Deacons have relied heavily on the senior trio of Heidi Coleman, Emon McMillian, and Jenn Miklic for leadership both on and off the court this year. All three players have started nearly every game this season and boast a combined 203 career starts between them. The senior classs has contributed 27 percent of the Deacons' scoring total (437 of 1641 points) and 23 percent of the team's rebounds (247 of 1062) in the 1998-99 season.
Dardy, Robinson Earn ACC Honors
Sophomore forward Olivia Dardy and freshman center LaChina Robinson have both earned weekly honors from the ACC this season. Dardy was named the ACC's Co-Player of the Week on Dec. 14 after posting 17 points and 15 rebounds to lift WFU to a win over Maryland, snapping a 17-game ACC losing streak for the Deacs. Robinson was selected as the ACC's Rookie of the Week on Jan. 11th after collecting 22 points, eight rebounds, three blocks, and two steals - all career highs - to help Wake to a win over Georgia Tech.
