Wake Forest Earns Bid to NCAA Men's Golf Regional
Demon Deacons make 32nd straight appearance.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's golf team earned its 32nd consecutive postseason bid this afternoon when the Demon Deacons were selected to participate in the NCAA Men's Golf East Regional, held May 14-16 at the Melrose Golf Course at Daufuskie Island in Hilton Head, S.C.
The Demon Deacons were one of 23 teams selected to participate in the NCAA East Regional, in addition to five individual golfers. The top 11 teams and two individuals will advance to the 1998 NCAA Championships, held May 27-30 at the University of New Mexico's Championship Golf Course in Albuquerque, N.M. Nineteen teams and four individuals will also advance to the finals from the NCAA Central and West Regionals. Wake Forest, ranked 26th in the latest Mastercard Collegiate Rankings, has not missed out on NCAA play since 1962.
Since the NCAA began the regional playoff format in 1989, the Deacs have advanced to the national finals every season except in 1989 and 1990. Wake Forest finished was the 1997 NCAA runner-up, finishing three strokes behind national champion Pepperdine.
