Men's Golf Travels to Chris Schenkel E-Z-GO Intercollegiate
Tournament fields seven teams in the Mastercard Top 25.

Wake Forest is back in action this Saturday and Sunday, March 27-28, at The Chris Schenkel E-Z-GO Intercollegiate. The 54-hole event will be contested at the Forest Heights Country Club in Statesboro, GA, and features a field of 15 teams, including seven teams ranked in the Mastercard Top 25 and seven ACC squads (Wake, Clemson, Georgia Tech, NC State, Virginia, and Duke).
Last Time Out
Wake Forest fired rounds of 299 and 304 to finish seventh out of 16 teams at the rain-shortened Seminole Classic, held at the Golden Eagle Country Club in Tallahassee, FL on March 9-10. With a 27-over par total of 603, the Demon Deacons finished 18 strokes behind team champion South Carolina, who recorded a 9-over 585 to win by one stroke. Senior Oscar Sanchez (Canary Island, Spain) recorded the first top 10 finish since his sophomore campaign, shooting 75-72 to finish tied for sixth at 3-over. Sanchez was five strokes behind the individual medalist, South Carolina's Kyle Thompson. Senior Michael Capone (Cranston, RI) and sophomore Ryan Peiffer (Winston-Salem, NC) both finished in 31st place at 8-over, shooting 76-76 and 75-77, respectively. Freshman Jay Morgan (Choctaw, OK) started strong with a 73, but struggled to an 81 in round two to finish 43rd at 10-over. Sophomore Jamie Gallacher (Surrey, England) shot 75-82 to finish 58th at 13-over.
Head Coach Jerry Haas
Jerry Haas is in his second season as head coach of the Demon Deacons, after having taken the reins of the Wake Forest program in September of 1997. A 1985 graduate of WFU and a four-time collegiate All-American, Haas played nine years of professional golf, including four years on the PGA Tour, before returning to his alma mater as a head coach.

Michael Capone (Sr, Cranston, RI)
1998-99 Avg: 73.2. Career Avg: 73.8. Owns team's lowest average on the year...opened the spring with a career-low 212 (4-under) to finish 12th at the Puerto Rico Classic...shot a 69 in the final round of the PRC...sixth at the G. Gunby Jordan Intercollegiate in the fall...posted a team-low 73.3 average in the fall...third on the team with a 74.0 average in 1997-98...sixth at the 1997 NCAA Championships to earn honorable mention All-America honors...eighth at the '97 ACC's...owns three career top 10 finishes and eight top 20s.
Jay Morgan (Fr, Choctaw, OK)
1998-99 Avg: 75.3. Career Avg: 75.3. Rookie standout who has played in every event so far this year...placed 70th at the Puerto Rico Classic and 43rd at the Seminole Classic...earned his first career top 10 in just his third collegiate tourney, an eighth-place showing at the Windon Memorial Classic in the fall...recorded a 74.5 average through five fall events, the second-lowest average on the team...has recorded four of his 19 rounds this year at or under par.
Thomas Parker (Sr, Laurinburg, NC)
1999-99 Avg: 78.7. Career Avg: 76.2. Opened the spring with a 66th place finish at the Puerto Rico Classic...competed in two fall events, posting a 79.3 stroke average...finished 72nd at The Ridges Intercollegiate and 83rd at the Taylor Made Red River Classic...fifth-year senior who has competed in 14 career events.
Oscar Sanchez (Sr, Canary Island, Spain)
1998-99 Avg: 74.9. Career Avg: 75.0. Earned the first top 10 since his sophomore year at the Seminole Classic, placing sixth with a 3-over 147 (36 holes) ...was 43rd at the Puerto Rico Classic (224)...recorded a 75.21 average in five fall events...struggled through the 1997-98 campaign with a team-high 77.5 stroke average...earned All-ACC honors in 1997...won the Carpet Capital Collegiate Classic in the spring of 1997, Wake's last individual tournament title...a member of the Spanish National Team.
Juan Vizcaya (Jr, Madrid, Spain)
1998-99 Avg: 76.9. Career Avg: 75.8. Finished 70th at the Puerto Rico Classic...posted a 76.3 average through two fall events...43rd at the Duke Golf Classic and 59th at the G. Gunby Jordan Intercollegiate...77th at the '97 NCAA East Regional...has shot 69 three times in his career...one career top 10 finish, an eighth place at the '96 ReliaStar Invitational... a member of the Spanish National Team.
