Dec. 19, 2001

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State head football coach Mick Dennehy announced Wednesday the signing of Greg Vandermade to a national letter of intent to compete for the Aggies. Vandermade will enroll for school at USU in the Spring 2002 semester.

Vandermade, a 6-3, 291-pound offensive guard from the College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, Calif., earned all-Western States honors two straight years for head coach Chuck Lyon. During his two years, College of the Canyons went 19-3 winning the Western States Conference Championship both seasons and advancing to back-to-back bowl games where they won the 2001 Western States Bowl.

Vandermade was named a first-team JC Grid-Wire academic All-American this past year and was also named a NSCA Strength and Conditioning All-American. He also received the strength and conditioning award and scholar-athlete award from College of the Canyons along with being named the Cougar of the Year.

"Greg is a very bright, highly intense competitor who is used to winning," said Dennehy. "He is a very physical player who will help solidify the inside of our offensive line. We look forward to coaching him and know that Greg will help make an immediate impact on our team at Utah State."

Vandermade chose Utah State over Rutgers, San Jose State, and Buffalo.

Utah State will announce two to three more mid-year players over the next two weeks.
