Feb. 20, 2002

LOGAN, Utah - Middle Tennessee State has been added to the 2002 Utah State University football schedule it was announced today by Aggie athletic director Rance Pugmire.

The Aggies will travel to Murfreesboro, Tenn. to close the regular season on Nov. 30. It will be the first meeting between the two schools. Middle Tennessee State is a member of the Sun Belt Conference and posted an 8-3 record a year ago, including a 5-1 mark in league play.

The game was made possible due to the fact that USU's scheduled home game against South Florida was recently dropped by USF.

"We would have liked to have added a home game, but after South Florida dropped us, it was difficult to get a game scheduled," Pugmire said. "Middle Tennessee State will return the game in Logan to open the 2004 season.

"Our football schedule has been a daily struggle," Pugmire added.

The Aggies will play five home games and six road contests in 2002. Four of USU's first six opponents played in bowl games last year, including Utah, Nebraska, Iowa, and Brigham Young.

USU's 2002 schedule will stretch from the August 31 home opener against Utah to the November 30 finale at Middle Tennessee State. The Aggies will have three byes during the season and all will take place after the Oct. 4 home game against Brigham Young (Oct. 12, Nov. 2 and Nov. 23).
