HONOLULU, Hawai'i - Utah State's women's volleyball team improved to 3-2 on the season with a five-game win over the University of Cincinnati by final scores of 32-30, 23-30, 30-21 25-30, and 15-11 at the Seventh Annual Aston Imua Wahine Volleyball Classic in Honolulu Friday night. USU is now 1-1 in the tournament after losing to No. 10 Hawai'i Thursday night by final scores of 30-23, 30-12, 30-18.

Utah State established its offense and defense early against the Bearcats as the Aggies hit .192 in the opening game and held UC to just a .055 hitting percentage en route to the game one win. After Cincinnati rallied to win game two 30-23, USU responded by winning the third game 30-25 as the Aggies hit .366 in the game. After Cincinnati rallied to win game four 30-25, Utah State hit a blistering .409 in the fifth and deciding game to notch a 15-11 win.

Sophomore middle blocker Erin Cartwright (Hyrum, Utah) paced the USU offense with a career-high 25 kills to go along with nine digs and five blocks, while senior outside hitter Lisa Borom (Las Vegas, Nev.) had 21 kills and 14 digs for her third double-double of the young season. Junior outside hitter Hailey MacKay (Bountiful, Utah) hit a team-high .500 in the match (10-2-16), and junior defensive specialist Emily Kennedy (Arcadia, Calif.) had a career-high 21 digs.

As a team, Utah State hit .206 in the match and held Cincinnati to a .148 hitting percentage. The Aggies posted 28 more digs in the match and both teams notched 15 blocks.

Utah State will play its final match of the tournament Saturday night at 7 p.m. (MDT) against the University of Southern California, who is currently ranked sixth in the country. It will be the third ranked team that USU has played this year.
