Men's Cross Country Will Advance to NCAA Championships

Nov. 12, 2001

As expected, both the men's team and Katie Appenrodt received confirmation to compete at the NCAA Championships, scheduled to be held Monday, November 19th in Greenville, South Carolina.  Both the team and Katie's acceptance breaks new ground for the Gaucho program, marking the first time in UCSB history either team will be represented at the national meet.

The men are currently ranked 13th in the country and will have their sites set on intruding as a top-ten finisher.  Individually, Josh Horton and Eric Gans will challenge for All-American honors, as will Appenrodt.  Horton finished 7th at the NCAA Regional race last weekend while Gans was 19th.  Both athletes recognized the race as a sub-par performance and are hoping for a better effort in South Carolina.  Appenrodt has continued to improve all season, and after taking 10th in the competitive women's race, she appears to be peaking at a very high level.
