Storms Shorten Second Day of Freshmen Practice

Coach Scelfo satisfied with another day of work with his newcomers.

COVINGTON, La. - Intense afternoon thunderstorms cut short the second of Tulane's two scheduled freshmen workouts Saturday, but head coach Chris Scelfo was still satisfied after another day of work with his newcomers.

"Despite the rain, we've had three really good practices with this group," said Scelfo. "They've been very attentive and receptive to what we're trying to get them ready for.

"The rain may have actually been a positive. This will give these young guys a chance to regroup both mentally and physically before the varsity comes in."

The Green Wave upperclassmen join the freshmen at St. Paul's School Sunday. Tulane's first full-squad workout is scheduled for Monday morning.

"We're looking forward to having the varsity in here," said Scelfo. "We'll pick up the pace a little bit and get down to serious work. Hopefully, these freshmen will be ready for the challenge."

Scelfo pointed out a handful of freshmen who had caught his eye thus far. Included in that group were running back Jeff Sanchez, wideout Kerwin Jones, defensive back Quentin Brown, defensive tackle Marlon Tickles and defensive end Floyd Dorsey.
