NCBWA Announces 1999 All-American Team

Green Wave's Sutter earns second-team honors.

NEW ORLEANS - The cream of college baseball standout players dot the 1999 National Collegiate Baseball Writers All-American Teams, which was released on Thursday. Representing Tulane on the list were James Jurries, Chad Sutter, Andy Cannizaro, and Henry Bonilla.

Sutter was named to the Second Team All-American squad in the catchers position. Sutter blasted 23 home runs this season and led Tulane with a .393 batting average and 87 RBI. Jurries was awarded third team honors, as a second baseman, after a stellar freshman season. On the year, Jurries batted .374 with 20 home runs.

Featured on the honorable mention team were RHP Bonilla and shortstop Cannizaro. Bonilla compiled an 11-1 record on the season with a 3.34 ERA, and 131 strikeouts in 124 2/3 innings pitched. Cannizaro led Conference USA in stolen bases with 31, hit .370, and recorded a solid .949 fielding percentage.
