Providence Takes on Pittsburgh

Fitzgerald Fieldhouse (6,798) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania FRIARS VERSUS PANTHERS...The two teams meet this afternoon for the second time this season and the 32nd time in the all-time series. The Friars have won four in a row in the series and six of the last seven meetings between the schools. Providence won in Providence on January 10th by an 87-77 score. Pittsburgh leads the all-time series with a 17-14 mark. Pitt is 17-13 against the Friars in BIG EAST regular season play. In Pittsburgh, the Friars have had their problems winning just two of 14 meetings. The Friars won on their last trip to Pittsburgh, January 28, 1996, an 85-70 decision. FRIAR UPDATE...The Friars have now won three in a row for the first time this season. On Wednesday night in Providence, PC got 21 points from Jamel Thomas and Justin Farley had the first double-double of his career with 16 points and 10 rebounds as the Friars came-from-behind to beat Miami, 59-57. The PC streak includes wins at Seton Hall (74-73) on February 11th and a 58-52 win over Villanova on February 14th. Prior to the win at Seton Hall, the Friars had lost a season high five games in a row.
