Howard Expected To Have Full Recovery

Oct. 11, 1999

Memphis, Tenn. - Memphis senior cornerback Reginald Howard underwent successful surgery Monday to reduce and stabilize his subluxed sixth cervical vertebra. The surgery, performed by Dr. Allen Sills of the Semmes-Murphey Clinic, took place at Baptist Central Hospital and Howard is reported to be resting comfortably.

Howard had a fusion of his fifth and sixth cervical vertebra and a plate inserted to aid in the stabilization. He is in excellent condition and has full neurological function.

If his recovery continues with no complications, Howard could be moved from ICU to a private room Tuesday and be discharged later in the week.

Howard's condition will be evaluated on a daily basis and media advisories will be issued.
