Baylor sophomore Matt Chance and senior Kara Newton were named the Big 12 Runners of the Week by the conference office Tuesday after leading the Bears to victories at the UTA Season Opener last weekend.

Chance paced the Baylor team finishing second overall, turning in a time of 20:14 for the four-mile race. The Grapevine, Texas native finished 20 seconds behind winner Eliad Njabi of TCU. The Bears won the men's race with 37 points to second place North Texas' 62.

Newton also placed second overall at the UTA Season Opener over the weekend. The Amarillo, Texas native recorded a time of 11:40 in the two-mile race. Baylor won the women's race scoring 32 points to runner-up TCU's 54.

BU's men's and women's cross country teams will be back in action Saturday, Sept. 15 when they travel to Houston, Texas to compete in the Rice Invitational.
