Arizona State to Host Men's and Women's Tennis Regionals

TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona State University will host both the men's and women's first-and second-rounds of the 1999 NCAA Tennis Championships, May 14-16 at the Whiteman Tennis Center.

The 17th-ranked Arizona State men's team (14-5) are the top-seed, 14th overall, and will play unranked Hofstra University (13-0) in the first-round on Friday, May 14 at 1:00 p.m. Before ASU's match, 18th-ranked Pepperdine (22-7) with face 40th-ranked New Mexico (12-9) in the other first round match beginning at 10:00 a.m.

The winners of each first-round will advance to the second-round on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. The champion of the regional will then advance to Athens, Georgia to play in the round of 16 team championships beginning, Saturday, May 22.

The 11th-ranked Arizona State women's team (12-7) are also the top-seed, 11th overall, and will face Northern Arizona (20-2) in the first-round on Saturday, May 15 at 9:00 a.m. The other first-round match will feature 22nd-ranked Northwestern (18-4) against Illinois (13-10) at 3:00 p.m.

Both first-round winners will advance to the second-round on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. The champion will then advance to Gainsville, Florida to play in the round of 16 team championship starting, Thursday, May 20.
