Columbus, Ohio - Buckeye women's basketball head coach Jim Foster will lead his team on a twelve-day, five-game foreign tour through Europe Aug. 23-Sept. 3. While abroad, the Buckeyes will be competing against two Swiss and three French teams as they visit historic sites and cities throughout France and Switzerland.
"This trip will provide us with a great chance to not only work with the players as a group, but to also watch and work with them as a team in actual competition," said Foster, who begins his first season with the Buckeyes after an 11-year tenure at Vanderbilt University. "This is a wonderful opportunity for our coaching staff and team to start out the year. Additionally, any time you go to another country and witness a different culture it helps you grow as a person."
The Buckeyes depart from Columbus, Ohio, on Aug. 23 and will arrive in Paris, France, on Aug. 24 for 10 days of travel and competition. The team will begin with a Paris city tour, a bus trip to the Eiffel Tower and on Aug. 25 they will play their first game in Paris. After an evening trip on the Seine River and a walking tour of Strasbourg, the Buckeyes will compete in their second game on Aug. 28 in Strasbourg. The third game will take place in Montreux, Switzerland, on Aug. 29 and will be followed by a tour of the Chillon Castle. After a free day in Nice, France, the Buckeyes will meet their final opponent on Sept. 1 and will return home from Nice on Sept. 3 after a tour and a day at the beach in Monaco on Sept. 2.
Basketball Travelers, Inc., a group that was established in 1985 and is comprised of former athletes who seek to serve the needs of worldwide basketball community, is organizing the tour for Ohio State.
