Prevost Named To Akron Women's Basketball Staff

Prevost comes to Akron after three seasons with Minnesota's men's basketball program.

AKRON, Ohio - Newly appointed Akron women's basketball coach Kelly Kebe announced the hiring of Art Prevost Wednesday as an assistant women's basketball coach. Prevost comes to UA following three years on the men's basketball staff at the University of Minnesota.

"I'm extremely excited to bring Art to the Zips' staff," said Kebe, who worked with Prevost on the Texas Christian University staff. "We had a lot of success together at TCU and we hope to duplicate that here at Akron."

The former women's associate head coach at TCU, Prevost will serve as the Zips' recruiting coordinator and work primarily with developing the UA perimeter players.

"Art will bring at unmatched energy and enthusiasm to this program," said Kebe. "He is one of the top recruiters in the country and I am looking forward to working with him again."

Prevost joined the Golden Gophers' staff three seasons ago after 11 seasons as a collegiate coach, including seven years coaching women's basketball. He served as Minnesota's director of basketball operations for one season before being promoted to a full-time assistant in the spring of 2000.

As one of Dan Monson's top recruiters, Prevost was responsible for the Gophers' 2001 recruiting class which was ranked as one of the top 10 in the nation by many publications. On the court, his primary duties included working with the Gopher perimeter players. He also served as Minnesota's liaison to community outreach programs.

While at TCU, Prevost acted as the recruiting and academic coordinator for Mike Petersen's Horned Frog program. He signed the first class in TCU history to earn a bid to the NCAA Tournament. Prevost signed four junior college All-Americans, along with a 1997 recruiting class that was ranked among the top 20 in the nation.

A 1990 graduate of Lamar University, Prevost was a two-year letterwinner for the Cardinals. The point guard helped lead Lamar to its last 20-win season in 1987-88. Following graduation, Prevost spent two years on the Lamar men's staff.

Prevost is a member of National Association of Basketball Coaches and the Black Coaches Association. He and his wife, Tona, have a four-year old daughter, Taylon, and are expecting their second child this summer.
