UGA To Refund 3,700 Tickets

UGA Faces the Greatest Season Ticket Demand in History

ATHENS---------Facing the greatest football season ticket demand in the history of the program, the University of Georgia Athletic Association will refund approximately 3,700 tickets.

"We are obviously pleased with the tremendous show of support for our football program," said Freddy Jones, Georgia's Associate Athletic Director for Ticket Operations. "The Georgia fans have once again shown why they rank among the best in college football. However, at the same time, we are disappointed that we could not fill all of the season orders we received.

"Certainly, there is excitement with the demand for tickets," said UGA Athletics Director Vince Dooley. "There is also disappointment that we cannot accommodate all those who would like tickets. However, we began some time ago making plans to add seats to Sanford Stadium and hopefully, this expansion of some 4,000 seats will be ready for the 2003 season."

Georgia's season ticket priority system is broken down into three categories: (1) contributors, (2) alumni who do not contribute and (3) the general public. The contributors are filled according to their cumulative contributions while the alumni and general public orders are filled according to the date they are received by the ticket office.

According to Jones, all of the contributors' orders were filled as were those of all alumni whose orders were received before and on March 26. Non-contributing alumni who ordered after this date and all of the general public orders were refunded.

"We waited until now to make the refunds so that we could wait and see if there were any faculty seats left," Jones said. "However, our faculty demand also increased; therefore we had nothing else available to help fill our regular orders."
