LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Head Football Coach Jay Bateman announced the completion of his incoming recruiting class for the fall of 2002. The 26-member class includes several highly touted players and several local standouts. The newcomers could be a major factor as the Saints attempt to improve upon back-to-back one-win seasons.

"We are pleased to bring in a very deep group of skilled athletes who should help us address our needs immediately," Bateman said. "We look forward to their contributions on the playing field and their development as student-athletes at Siena."

Highlighting the class is a pair of decorated tailbacks who could compete for playing time in the backfield right away. Pat Heenan (Selkirk, N.Y./Bethlehem) was a First Team Times Union selection and the top running back in the Suburban Council this past season. He is a productive runner who will add to the bevy of local talents on the 2002 roster. Sal Jeraci (West Harrison, N.Y./Harrison) led his high school to the NY State semi-finals in the fall. He is an explosive and refined runner who should have little trouble making the transition to the College game.

Addressing the Saints kicking needs is Saratoga native Andrew Mangini (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs). Mangini is a capable place kicker and punter and should help ease Bateman's special teams worries.

Perhaps the most heralded recruit is strong safety Joe Serratelli (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial). Serratelli is a two-time All State, three-time All-Conference selection. His high school, which is sending three players off to I-A programs this season, won back-to-back Class AAAA New Jersey State Championships. He is an intelligent and tough athlete who will compete for immediate playing time.

Also of note are a pair of Iona Prep graduates who look to continue the success attained by alumni before them who have made the smooth transition to the Siena football program. Keith Davis (White Plains, N.Y./Iona Prep) is an all-Catholic League performer who will see time as a wide receiver this fall. He enters camp as one of the team's fastest players. High School classmate R.J. Carbone (Hartsdale, N.Y./Iona Prep) will likely be shifted to defensive back, where his All-League talents will be best showcased.

The Saints open their season at Iona on September. The team's home opener is September 14 against Duquesne.
