Stony Brook, NY - Stony Brook University's countdown to its brand-new, state-of-the-art stadium will be in the double digits starting tomorrow. There are now just 100 days left until Seawolves Stadium opens when the football team battles St. John's on Saturday, September 14 at 6:00 p.m.
The stadium construction continues to progress. The installation of the all-weather field turf surface, chairbacks and bleachers are nearly complete.
Already in place are the six light towers that will allow the Seawolves to play night games and the University and community to hold night time activities and events. Construction on the south end of the building - which contains various meeting rooms and locker rooms - nears its completion as well.
Installation of luxury boxes and media facilities will continue as the summer nears.
In 2002-2003, the Stony Brook football team will play its five-game schedule inside the stadium, men's and women's soccer will play selected games there and the men's and women's lacrosse teams will play their entire home schedules there.
