RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Jimmy Boykin scored 23 points as Coppin State defeated Norfolk State 61-46 in the first round of the Mid-Eastern Conference Tournament on Monday.
Coppin State (6-24) trailed 25-24 at halftime after shooting 32.3 percent but improved to 50 percent in the second half.
Norfolk State (10-18), which shot 40.9 percent in the first half, hit just 25 percent of its field goals in the second.
Darryl Towe had 10 points for Norfolk State, which was 2-of-5 from the foul line.
Larry Tucker scored 16 points for Coppin State, which outrebounded Norfolk State 43-33.
Coppin State will face Delaware State on Wednesday.
