King's Call
December 2, 1999 Miami's junior wide receiver Andre King is still excited about last week's win over Syracuse and is looking forward to closing out the regualr season against Temple. How 'bout them 'Canes!!! Call it want you want: Revenge, Payback or whatever, all I know is that the Miami Hurricanes showed up on Saturday and played football.
With all the talk leading up to the game about last year's performance against the Orangemen, I thought the guys handled it very well in the sorts of not making this game about a war of words. We concentrated on the business at hand and not all the negative chit chat. We figured they had two weeks to prepare for us so we had to expect the unexpected. We thought with that much time to prepare we would see more outlandish plays, but nothing they did really stood out. We played solid in all three phases of the game which probably had something to do with their play selection. It was just great to finally come out and play well. We put together a full 60 minutes of football and that is what made the difference. There were so many momentum swings in the game -- Santana Moss's punt return for a touchdown and Leonard Myers interception also for a touchdown were two of the biggest before the half that seemed to get us rolling. You know what they say, big-time players make big-time plays in big games. The Temple Owls will by flying in this week. The game that was postponed due to Hurricane Irene, will be played this Saturday at noon. You want to talk about not knowing what to expect, these guys have nothing to lose. It is the last game of the season, they have two wins and we think their mindset would be to play spoiler and ruin our bowl chances. We might see the kitchen sink, the tub, as a matter of fact the whole house. They have great players on both sides of the football and with two weeks to prepare there is no telling what trickery they will pull. We just have to be prepared as always and execute the game plan. Well I must say that two years of marriage has gone by as fast as a blur. Jessica and I will celebrate our two-year anniversary (Nov. 29). Timing is good considering we do not have practice today. We can actually see each other without the interference of practice or late meetings. I must say it's been great, with the percentage stacked against such a fine institution, we have had fun together and enjoyed every moment. So come on out 'Canes fans to catch a final look at YOUR 'Canes in regular season action at the OB, although I know that we will see ya at the bowl game. From a 'Cane to all those crazed 'Cane fans!!! Andre' King |
