The Farmer Files

Bruins WR Danny Farmer, a preseason All-American and Biletnikoff Award candidate, talks about preparing for Pac-10 leader Washington and reflects on closing out his career at UCLA.

November 10, 1999

"I think the bye week was good for us. We had four really good days or practice from Monday to Thursday. We were able to get Friday, Saturday and Sunday off so I think a lot of guys were able to get away from football, relax and spend some time with family and friends. I think that was a great thing for us. It was interesting because you only get a few chances to watch college football throughout the year and it was fun because I was able to watch a few games on Saturday. It was just a nice weekend off to kind of relax and have some fun.

We definitely have our work cut out for us this week against Washington. The Huskies have a tough defense and big guys like Lester Towns and Jabari Isa. Just a bunch of big guys on the defensive line so I think it's going to be a difficult game for our offensive line. Hopefully we can do some things and mix it up a little bit and maybe catch them off-guard. It's really going to be another test for us again. If you look at their offense, they have Marques Tuiososopo, who is probably the best player in the Pac-10 right now. He's making a lot of plays and doing a lot of things. Anyone who can throw for 300 yards and run for 200 in a single game, is just a phenomenal performer. It's unbeliveable and I think he's the guy to stop right now. I think he's kind of carried the team on his back and hopefully we can do some things and knock them off this week and play the role of spoiler.

Coming toward the end of my career here, I think Iım going to miss UCLA more than some of the other guys because it has been my home for five years now. Iıve basically been on campus every day for five years with two sports and everything. I think back to high school and it seems like so long ago and Iıve basically lived here at UCLA since then. I consider UCLA home and itıs going to be real tough to leave. Iıve grown up so much here. I came here as a naïve little boy and I think Iıve grown up and learned some things in being here and it has just been the best experience ever. There are just a lot of great memories here and Iıll take those wherever I go."
